PARCEL DELIVERY AND COURIER SERVICES TO SOUTH GEORGIA AND SOUTH SANDWICH ISLANDS
Without a permanent, native population, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands are found in the Southern Atlantic and are a British Overseas Territory. The UK claimed sovereignty over South Georgia in 1775, with the South Sandwich Islands coming later in 1908 and they merged as one territory in 1985. Like the Falkland Islands, the dispute over sovereignty is debated by Argentina who tried to claim the region in the 1920s and 1930s. Captain Cook was the first person to land on the island in 1775, but whilst it was used as a sealers and whalers base – with seven stations across the north coast – in the 19th and early 20th century, the almost inhospitable lands haven’t been permanently lived on. There are preserved buildings on the settlement at Grytviken but they are the only remains on what is a place with a polar climate and harsh weather conditions.
