Set up a PayPal account

If you don’t have a PayPal account, you will need one before selling on the ASOS Marketplace. They also require that the selling preferences in your PayPal account are updated, so that the check-box for "Initiate payments from the Pay Anyone subtab of the Send Money tab" is not checked.

Apply to become a boutique seller

Unlike a lot of other selling platforms, which anyone can sign up for, you must apply to become a boutique seller on the ASOS marketplace. Once your application has been received, you will get a response within 3 working days. To make the grade, you need to be counted as emerging design talent, an innovative independent label and boutique, or a seller of the finest vintage selections.There is no guarantee that you will be successful. However, if ASOS do not approve your application but believe you have the potential to become a boutique seller, their Seller Support team will advise you on how to get things right.

Create your boutique

If your application is accepted, the next step is creating your boutique. This is fully editable and will enable you to build your own branded area within ASOS Marketplace. Customisable areas include the About Us profile, storefront, logo, showcase of your top items and product listings. If you get stuck at any point, there’s an Account Manager on hand to help you.Don’t forget to link your storefront to your social media channels too, and to make the most of your free blog to engage and inspire customers!

List your items

Now it’s time to start listing your items; one of the ASOS Marketplace requirements is that each boutique must have at least 10-15 product listings at all times. Five images are permitted per product listing, and each product has to be shot on a person and in natural daylight..Words are also important; you need to include a concise but informative title and descriptions which tell buyers what they would need to know about each item. Then all you need to do is price and post your items.

Follow the photography rules

If you want to get your clothing and accessories noticed by buyers, you need to have great pictures and it’s worth investing in this, which could mean hiring a model and a photographer. It’s also important that you follow ASOS Marketplace photography rules, which include taking your own photos and only using images that you own the rights to, always having someone modelling your clothes, and shooting in natural light.

Words are important too!

The words accompanying your listing can be just as important as the images of your products. This starts with the title which will help you to get found when people search through the Marketplace and search engines. As an example, ‘Retro oversize Olive Green Check Lined Coat Jacket’ is more likely to get your item noticed than ‘Retro Jacket’.

The description is also important for selling your clothes and accessories. This isn’t about inserting as many buzz words as you can think of, but informing potential buyers of key features like material, size and condition. Just think, what would I want to know if I was looking to buy this item?

Get your pricing right

Take the time to see how much similar items are being sold for on ASOS Marketplace and other platforms on the internet. Of course you want to make a profit, but make sure you’re not too unrealistic with your pricing.
