This week one thing is on the mind of all Americans, and international observers alike. The Donald.
Yes, the 45th President of the United States, Mr. Donald J. Trump, will officially take office on Friday, ushering in a new era, and a president addicted to Tweeting.
So here at My Parcel Delivery we thought this was the perfect excuse to tell you everything you need to know about how to send to the United States. So, whether it’s to your aunt in Arkansas, or your friend in Philadelphia, you can easily and cheaply send things across the Pond with our courier services. If it’s to cheer up disheartened Clinton voters, or to add to the celebrations of Trump’s supporters, this is our four-step guide to posting to the U-S of A this January.
1. How long does it take to send a parcel to the USA?
We can get your parcel to the States in as little as two working days. But if you want the cheapest option, our DPD Air Classic service takes between three and seven working days. Timings can vary though, depending on customs clearances etc. so this is an estimate only.
2. What can’t I send to the United States?
Like most countries, the USA has stringent import regulations. We have an extensive list of Prohibited and Restricted items that couriers in the UK won’t accept. If you’re sending clothes or souvenirs, you’ll usually be A-OK. But for a more definitive list, check out the US Postal Service guide, just to be on the safe side.
3. How much does it cost?
Getting the cheapest price is important for a lot of people when sending parcels to the USA, which is why we’ve got a range of services to match your exact requirements. These prices start from as little as £19.99+VAT, to send 1kg parcels with DPD Air, and from £84.04 to send 30kg parcels with Parcelforce.
4. What are the customs charges?
When you send a parcel to the USA from the UK, there are sometimes extra customs fees that need to be paid. The good news is, things like gifts and personal effects aren’t subject to customs charges if they’re under $800 in value. Before you send anything, you’ll need to fill out something called a pro-forma invoice. This tells US Customs what’s in your parcel and enables it to fly through as quickly as possible. Don’t worry though, My ParcelDelivery supply you with all the forms whenever you book parcel delivery to America with us. Just make sure you print out 5 copies of your completed pro-forma invoice and attached it in an envelope to the outside of your parcel. If you’re unsure whether your parcel will be charged a customs fee when it arrives in the US, there’s a really handy tool that you can use. Just type in your item and you’ll be able to see what percentage of duty and import tax may apply.
