MPD - safe, affordable & reliable
A huge country of 188,456 square miles, Turkmenistan is found in Central Asia and mainly desert. It is also one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. With some of the largest natural gas reserves in the world and the country stepping out of isolation, it potentially has an exciting future. Bordered by Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the Caspian Sea, it gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and is now a one party state. Whilst poverty is still high, it exports around $20 billion of gas, crude oil, textiles and cotton every year meaning the need for a cheap courier to Turkmenistan is rising gradually. The republic is still largely unexplored by tourism, but with strong traditions, natural beauty and being a spiritual place, this is likely to change.
The largest city in the country is the capital of Ashgabat, and around a fifth of the population lives here. Other notable locations include Turkmenabat, Dashoguz, Mary, Balkanabat, Bayramaly, Türkmenbasy, Tejen and Abadan. When you send a parcel to Turkmenistan, be sure to remember that they use a postcode system that is made up of 6-digits. With this, the first three represent the town or province with the last three relating to the mail centre hub – Ashgabat, for example, is 74400. Thanks to the exponential growth of the economy, money is continuously invested in transport infrastructure. This means that it has three international airports, railway links with neighbouring countries, a renovated port on the Caspian Sea, navigable rivers and tens of thousands of miles of roadways to help connect such a vast country.
