MPD - safe, affordable & reliable
Since becoming independent from the Soviet Union in 1991, political instability and poverty have held the Republic of Tajikistan back. Covering 55,251 square miles and with a population in excess of seven million, it depends on Russia and China for both security and economical reasons. The landlocked country is large but underdeveloped and bordered by Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. There is some concern about the emergence of radical Islam but the country is currently stable as the president ended the civil war. Currently, it exports more than $1.4 billion worth of goods including aluminium, cotton, electricity, fruits and textiles while importing a great deal more in petroleum products, machinery, foodstuffs and more. Investment from China is allowing it to develop roads and power as well as exploring oil, gas and gold mining throughout. The steady growth within the country has led to a demand for cheap parcel delivery to Tajikstan.

Being some 3,346 miles away from the UK, and in the middle of a rather unstable region, it is unsurprising that tourism is a small sector in the country. That’s not to say there’s nothing there because it is an adventure traveller’s playground, with dramatic highland landscapes to climb and trek. The capital and largest city in the country is Dushanbe, which means Monday in English, and has a population of around 800,000. With around 8.5 million people living in the country, there are other large cities and notable locations include Garm, Khujand, Kulob, Kurgan-Tyube, Istaravshan, Konibodom, Vahdat and Tursunzoda. Delivery services in Tajikistan use the postal system that was imposed by the former Soviet Union. This is a 6-digit code and the postcode for Garm, for example, is 735450. Due to poor maintenance and a lack of investment, transport in Tajikistan needs development but the international airport in the capital connects the country to major cities with direct flights, the railway runs for around 500 miles and there are almost 30,000 kilometres of highways to connect the various towns and cities.
