Hermes Launches New Warrington Hub

Parcel delivery company Hermes have launched their brand new site in Warrington, North West England. With more and more people shopping online and sending parcels every day, Leeds-based Hermes invested £25m in building a purpose-built hub capable of handling over 550,000 parcels every day. This is the single largest investment by Hermes and is an indication of how they see the parcel delivery market growing.

Hermes main aim in the building of this hub was to develop their next day delivery service, in addition to contributing to their international expansion plans. The fully automated sortation system was designed specifically to support changes in the way parcels are being sent in terms of volumes and types of items. Guy Winter, the Sales and Marketing Director at Hermes stated that “The built-in flexibility will allow us to meet any changing requirements our clients might have such as later assured collection cut-off times and a higher proportion of next-day delivery.”

Hermes, owned by German mail order retail giant Otto Group, delivers approximately 160m parcels a year in the UK through 24 regional depots. Last year they opened new depots in Coventry, Carlisle, West Thurrock and Maidstone, and also expanded their process capacity by 20% at its national hub in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. With the launch of their new Warrington Hub, we predict their service will go from strength to strength.
