Package Your Parcels

Parcelforce will only collect your items if they are packaged in a box rather than wrapped so make sure that you have the right tools for the job – if you need any tips then check out our packaging guidelines.

Avoid Extra Charges

Do you have a busy day ahead? Parcelforce add a charge of £5 for a missed collection so please arrange for a day that you will be available from 8am to 6.30pm or alternatively, book a drop off service where you can drop it off at your local Post Office and get on with your day.

Check Address Details

Check, check and check again when completing your collection and delivery address details. Any changes will incur an additional charge of 50% of the original cost bumping up the cost of your delivery – an extra moment spent checking could save you money

Sending Outside the EU?

Parcelforce also offer international delivery services and parcels sent outside of the EU (plus the Canary Islands) require a pro-forma invoice which will be provided at the end of your booking. Please print five copies and attach them to the outside of your parcel in a clearly marked envelope so that customs agents don’t need to open and reseal the parcel to find it. Making their job simple helps your delivery move quickly!

What are the steps for collection?

Once your parcel is packaged and ready to go, simply print your label and attach it to the parcel. If you don’t have a printer then there is no need to worry! All you need to do is clearly write your name, collection address, delivery address and MPD booking reference onto the outside of your parcel in marker pen. 

What are the steps for drop off?

If you book a drop off service, you'll need to print your label and attach it to the parcel before you drop it off at the Post Office. If you're not sure where your closest Post Office is, just take a look at Google Maps and search for "Post Office" plus the name of the area where you want to drop it off, for us it'd be "Post Office Salford". This should bring up all your closest options.

What time will the courier arrive for a collection?

The Parcelforce collection window is between 8am and 6.30pm so please be sure to arrange collection for a day when someone can stay at the address during these times. At peak periods such as Christmas these times may be extended as thousands of gifts are being sent around the world.

Can I leave the item outside for the courier to pick up if I am not at home?

We go with the motto of safety first! To keep your parcel (and you) protected the courier will only collect it from a person at your address. If you cannot stay at home why not try their drop-off service so you can get on with your day? You can drop it off at your local Post Office.

What happens if my item is too big or heavy?

The maximum parcel length permitted is 200cm (120cm on the standard service), the maximum weight is 25kg and the maximum girth is 280cm (calculated as girth=length + (2 x height) + (2 x depth)). The courier could refuse to collect any oversized or overweight parcels, or if they do collect them, they are liable to surcharges which none of us want! The parcel will be re-measured and weighed when it arrives at the sorting depot to confirm the size and weight are as stated on booking and any discrepancies could incur a surcharge. Be careful when measuring to ensure that you inputted the dimensions accurately. If you don’t have anything to measure with, then try our guide to weighing & measuring and remember…. if in doubt be generous with your estimations!

What are prohibited and restricted items?

Prohibited items, such as drugs, medicines and passports are not permitted to be sent by any courier you book through My Parcel Delivery. Other items can be sent but are not eligible for compensation cover. These restricted items include picture frames, furniture and health supplements.

When will my item be delivered?

The Parcelforce courier could knock on the door any time between 8am and 6.30pm so please be sure to arrange delivery for a day when somebody can stay at the recipient's address. If they can’t stay at home all day why not book a timed service? You can have the parcel delivered pre 9am, pre 10.30am and pre 12 noon Monday to Friday so that the recipient can get on with their busy day.

What happens if nobody is at home when the courier arrives to deliver the item?

The courier will leave a calling card with details of the attempted delivery and details on how to get your parcel. As the Parcelforce service requires a signature they are not able to try to post the item, nor can they leave it in a safe place. If a neighbour is available they may choose to leave it with them and will tell you this on the calling card.

What should I do if my parcel isn't collected?

We are pleased to tell you that the majority of parcels are collected from your address on the very first attempt. Unfortunately, there are occasions when collections fail to occur - we're really sorry about that. Parcelforce are unable to offer a guaranteed collection date, but they do everything they can to knock on your door on the estimated date offered at the time of booking. Whether your courier ran out of time, or the courier arrived but the parcel was not available, contact us to reschedule your collection.

What do I do if my parcel fails to be delivered?

Overall, our courier partners enjoy a massive 95% success rate getting your parcels delivered bang on time. That said, while most deliveries go without a hitch, very occasionally things go wrong and Parcelforce aren't able to guarantee their delivery dates. Anything from accidents and bad weather to heavy traffic and road closures can affect your courier's route and their ability to get your parcel delivered on time. If you experience this we're truly sorry for the inconvenience. We’ll keep you up to date by email but just contact us if you need help to reschedule for a different day.
